Investing: Do You Have Trouble Admitting You Are Wrong?

Your personality makes a difference. You have to look into the mirror and be absolutely candid about your own attitude toward risk, your ability to admit to having made a mistake, and your willingness to stray from the herd. If you have trouble admitting you are wrong, commodities will be as hard a school as any other investment area. Experienced commodities traders know that they will be wrong lots of times.

The Best Traders Are Maestros Of Timing

I, for example, am the world`s worst trader. The best traders are maestros of timing. Knowing when to get in and get out, they enter and exit markets fearlessly. Over decades I have learned the best way for me to make money is to find something cheap that I lil, take a position, and hold it for the long term. i am a lousy trader, and I avoid "short-term" investments.

Commodities Vs. Stocks

At times I prefer commodities over stocks. There are times where commodities should be shorted. It just depends on the supply and demand situation, where the world is, that cycle that is going on, on that particular point in time.

Investing Is A Hard Work

Yes, you can do it but investing, at least for me, is a hard work. It takes a lot of time, energy, effort. It is something you can not sort of sit around, look it is a Saturday afternoon, I am going to do my stock market research and then I am going to be successful.

Views On Algorithmic Trading

There are always new ways to invest, there always have been since the beginning of time. And these guys that do algorithmic trading, I mean, if they know what they are doing, if it works for them, they should do it.

I would not have a clue how to do it, but that does not mean other people should not do it and should not continue to do it. It adds some liquidity to the market and I am sure it is going to cause problems at times, most things do, eventually, when they are overdone. But that is what the market is.

Markets Do Foolish Things At Times

You make sure that if there is going to be a setback, you do not get wiped out. You keep enough reserve because markets do foolish things at times, you know.

If you are too over leveraged you are going to lose everything, even if you might be right in the long term.

Investing: One Of The Best Rules

One of the best rules anybody can learn about investing is to do nothing, absolutely nothing, unless there is something to do. Most people, not that I am better than most people, always have to be playing. They always have to be doing something. They make a big play and say, "Boy, I am smart, I just tripled my money." Then they rush out and have to so something else with that money. They just can`t sit there and wait for something new to develop.

Alibaba (BABA): The Market Top In Technology?

If you bought it on the offering, you made a lot of money. Otherwise, you lost a lot of money. So, I did not buy it, I am not important enough to get shares at the offering, so I did not buy it. It may be a sign of the top in technology. The technology market in the U.S. has been suffering since.

Investing: Don`t Rush To Buy What Is Hot

Whenever I see everyone rushing to bet their money on what`s hot, I remind myself of Bernard Baruch, the Wall Street legend and adviser to U.S. presidents. During the stock-market craze of the late 1920s, Baruch stopped for a shoeshine one day and the guy working on his shoes began giving him stock tips. His shoes looking fine, Baruch headed back to the office and sold everything!

Slowing Growth In China

It is a good thing that China is slowing down. They had a property bubble, they have had too much inflation, too much overheating. So its always good when you slow something like that down. Now people that are suffering, do not think it is good but in the big picture, it is good for all of us.

You Cannot Be Successful Without Understanding Commodities

Commodities are so pervasive that, in my view, you cannot be a successful investor in stocks, bonds, or currencies without understanding them. You must understand commodities even if you only invest in stocks and bonds. Commodities belong in every truly diversified portfolio. Investing in commodities can be a hedge against a bear market in stocks, rampant inflation, even a major downturn in the economy.

"Certainty" Is An Incomprehensible Word To A Rational Investor

I am not certain about anything. "Certainty" is an incomprehensible word to any rational and responsible investor. Only political ideologues, religious fanatics, and other madmen believe they have all the answers. Happily, you need neither omniscience nor certainty to get rich. All you have to do is pay attention to where the opportunities are in the markets, keep an eye out for major changes that might affect them, and then act rationally and responsibly.

Investing: The Losses Will Kill You

If you compound your money at 9 percent a year, you are better off than investors whose results jump up and down, who have some great years and horrible losses in others. The losses will kill you. They ruin your compounding rate, and compounding is the magic of investing.
