I Usually Get The Timing Wrong

True, I may get the timing wrong. I am usually early. As I have never been a particularly good trader, someone who runs in and out of positions and gets the timing right, I invest for the long haul.

Printing Money Does Not Work

To a government in economic trouble, printing money and inflation look as appealing as does a fifth of whiskey to a longtime drunk, but it never makes the log-term situation better. There`s no country or a people that has gone through what it takes to put its currency on a sound footing that has ever regretted it any more than an alcoholic who`s hit bottom regrets being sober after he`s  been on the wagon for 10 years.

Investing: Do You Believe In A Country?

My attitude is, if you believe in a country you should buy shares of every decent stock on its exchange. If you have got the right concept going for you, they are all going to move up together.

Wall Street: 600 Dollars To Millions

I came into the market with 600 dollars in 1968 and left in 1980 with millions. There had been costs, however. I had two short marriages to women who could not understand my passion for hard work, something my brothers and I had inherited from our father. I could not see the need for a new sofa when I could put the money to work for us in the market.

Russia: Gigantic Resources

Russia is probably the largest producer of nearly anything because it is such a gigantic area. They are the largest producer (of oil) and they probably can find lots and lots of more oil and everything else in the future.

Moscow: Will It Be An International Financial Center?

Putin talks about making the Moscow Stock Exchange or Moscow one of the financial centers of the world. It`s pretty astonishing to me, the home of lenin, the home of Stalin becoming an international financial center but they are starting to spend a lot of time, money and energy doing so.

Study Commodities In Order To Be Successful

Commodities are so pervasive that, in my view, you really cannot be a successful investor in stocks, bonds, or currencies without understanding them. You must understand commodities even if you only invest in stocks and bonds.

China: They Still Have A Big Problem

I am not buying much in China, I am buying a little bit. They still have a big debt problem which worries me a lot. But, I have started buying because they had a big conference in November when they said, "This is where we are going to to spend our money on in the next 20 years." They have got more money than I do, and they are smarter than I am and if they are going to put their money into something, I am too.

Russia: Buying Stocks, Looking At The Ruble

I am not buying the ruble, although I might. You are supposed to buy when there is blood on the streets. In Russia, there is blood on the streets figuratively.

China Stocks: Starting To Buy In A Small Way

I am finding optimism. I haven`t bought Chinese shares since 2008, everybody remembers 2008, but I am starting to buy in a small way again.

The Cheapest Market In The World

Now I started thinking about and acting and have bought a few, made a few investments in Russia. It`s probably the cheapest market in the world and certainly one of the most hated.

Investing: Be Patient

I am not very good at short term trading. I am also not very good at market timing and again as far as I am concerned and this does not apply to traders, but most people should do nothing mot of the time. If they own something, they should wait. In my case I might wait years for it to mature and develop.

United States: There Will Be Exchange Controls

There is no doubt in my mind that there will be exchange controls in America or on Americans sometime in the next few years. Again, I have no idea on the timing but when a nation gets itself into this kind of situation one of the things that politicians have always done is that they have imposed exchange controls when things get bad.

U.S. Dollar: Severe Problems Down The Road

We certainly are going to have severe dollar problems down the road. America is the largest debtor nation in the world`s history. No nation in the history of the world has been so deep into debt and getting deeper every day.

When The Artificial Liquidity Dries Up, Stocks Will Suffer

Some stock markets are making all time highs based on this artificial liquidity. When that ends, and some emerging markets are already suffering because they have been financing themselves on this artificial interest rates and artificial liquidity. It`s going to continue, it`s going to affect all of us, including the U.S. stock market. I am no good at market timing, so I have no idea when, but I know its going to happen.

U.S. Dollar: People Will Look For An Alternative

The U.S. Dollar is a terribly flawed currency. We are the largest debtor nation in the world`s history and now we are telling people, "you better be careful if you use U.S. dollars, we may take it away from you, we may block you."

So, of course people are going to look for an alternative.

Agriculture: War & Tensions Are Bullish Drivers

As you may know agriculture is going through the roof this year. I suspect that is going to continue because war and tensions are not good for anything but they are good for commodities, especially agriculture.
